How To Properly Dress Your Tires!

Most people would agree that a properly dressed tire makes all the difference on the end result of a detail. A lot of people wonder though, how do you dress the tire and make it look good? Firstly, everyone has different taste when it comes to tire dressing, some people like a reflective tire while some crave the matte look. In this blog we’ll break down how to achieve a perfectly dressed tire that you can not only be proud of, but it’ll also last for more than a few days!

The first step to ensure your tire looks amazing and lasts is to clean it. We like to use a nylon brush and some degreaser to strip the tire of all the dirt and previous dressing on it. You may need to do a few passes if your tires are really dirty but once its fully cleaned you can begin dressing it

Before you dress the tire, make sure that it’s fully dry. You can use a leaf blower to speed up this process or just let it air dry, either will get the job done. After it’s fully dried, you can begin. If you like a very glossy, wet looking tire, we recommend buying an aerosol can dressing you can usually find at your local Walmart or auto parts store. These products are very simple because usually all you have to do is apply it to the tire by spraying it on and walk away! The downside of these products is that they usually create a good bit of tire sling onto your paint because rather than soaking into your tire, they sit on top of the tire surface. Meaning that as soon as you drive away, it’ll likely sling off and onto your paint.

If you like a more matte, deep black look then you will need to take a few more steps. First, you will want to buy a creme tire dressing, you can usually also find these at your local Walmart. You will also need a microfiber applicator pad. To apply these kinds of products you usually apply a line of it to the applicator then work it into the tire section by section. After you're done with the first layer you can apply more depending on how much shine you’re going after. This obviously takes a bit more time but many would argue it’s worth it for the finish it gives!

Now that you know how to dress your tires, you can feel confident that you will get it right and your tires will be the finishing touch to your car after you detail it!
