Wax, Sealant, Or Coating, What’s Best For You?

One question we get asked time and again is “what’s the best protection for my vehicle?” See…some detailers say “everyone needs a ceramic coating on their car” or, “wax is the way to go”. The truth is…it’s not so black and white, in fact, the answer to this question is totally dependent on your specific situation! Variables like your budget, your car's model, your car's condition, even your car's color all play a role in choosing the best protection for your car. In this blog I thought we would take a look at exactly what protection is right for you!

First off, let’s talk about ceramic coatings. Ceramics are the best protection you can get on your car in the detailing world! However, it’s important to keep in mind that they aren’t impervious. A few reasons you might want a ceramic paint coating on your car would be:

1. Long-term paint protection. This is probably the biggest reason to buy a ceramic. Seriously, if you just need years of paint protection…this is it!

2. Unmatched gloss and depth. The Shine and depth a ceramic will give you is truly unmatched by any other product. If this is important to you, then you NEED a ceramic.

3. Minor scratch and chemical resistance. If you need the best possible scratch resistance money can buy, a ceramic coating is the way to go.

4. Finally, self-cleaning properties. This is detailer language meaning the paint stays cleaner for longer due to a high surface tension that the ceramic creates.

5. UV protection. Ceramic coatings are the best way to protect your car’s clear coat from failing long term due to UV damage.

Now that we’ve gone over the benefits of a ceramic coating…here are some reasons you might want a paint sealant:

  1. Gloss and shine.

2. Usually 6-8 months of protection.

3. Paint sealants do provide very minor scratch and chemical resistance.

Finally, some benefits of a wax:

1. Warm glossy finish. Although a ceramic provides an extremely slick, deep, and glossy surface, wax generally has a warmer finish to it.

2. 2-4 months of protection.

As you can see, there are benefits to all these products and…the truth is there’s something for everyone here. Now that you have an idea of what exactly each of these products are and what they do…you can make a better, more informed purchase without throwing your money at something you have no idea about.
